In the style of a 1950s Pop Idol
Me in 1962

In 1962, I wanted to be like a 1950s Pop Idol – like, say, Bobby Vee or Bobby Rydell or Brian Hyland or Johnny Tillotson – but I never was one obviously. My hair was right though, and, in this photo my father took, the 'look' girls liked until The Beatles came along shortly after. Then I became more like a Beatle and performed pop music in front of girls who definitely did like The Beatles (which I did too but I still liked the American Pop Idols – including the Everly Brothers who my father hated). In 1963 and 1964 it was good enough to look a bit like a Beatle, which a lot of boys did just by growing their hair. See more about this on Abersoch Pier, 1963 and Pete Turbefield and me.
Sandra and I with Clive Leyland and his wife Sheila went to see the Everly Brothers in Blackburn – probably at the Empire Theatre in the late 1990s.
