Richard Poskitt ("Joe Boss") was Headmaster of Bolton School Boys' Division from 1933 to 1966. I was there from 1960 to 1965 and regarded Mr Poskitt as an outstanding Headmaster. The Headmistress of the Girls' Division was then Margaret Higginson. As far as I know, "Miss Higginson" was just as respected.
This is a far better portrait than the photograph of Frederick Richard Poskitt in the National Portrait Gallery and which does not characterise him at all well. It is unnatural and much too mannered. This is the Richard Poskitt I remember.
