Sledging in our back garden, perhaps winter of 1994-95
Nick and Robert
If this was the winter of 1994-95 Nick would be nine and Robert twelve. Most winters around that time had spells of snow when children went sledging on Winter Hill. The snow soon melted but it seems there was more of it twenty years ago than winters now. We always had a couple of plastic sledges in the garage.
The picture shows some metal posts and the stalks of fruit bushes poking out of the snow. The idea we had was to make a small plantation of fruit (mostly raspberries and loganberries) on the bottom part of our lawn with a path down the middle where Nick and Robert are sledging but it soon became too much work keeping weeds down and mowing the access strips between the rows of fruit. I dug everything out again after two or three years but a few of the metal posts (which originally had wires stretched across) still exist on the boundary.
